The Darder Museum and the Archaeological Museum

The Darder Museum - A space of interpretation of the lake.

This museum, one of the oldest in the province of Girona, has housed since 1916 the collection that Fransesc Darder i Llimona donated to the city of Banyoles.

The anthropology room, until recently with human samples (the Bushman repatriated to Africa), is an example of the types of museums that existed at the beginning of the 20th century. But the museum, at the same time, also explains the hydrogeological phenomenon of the lake basin of the Banyoles Lake.

The Archaeological Museum (Pia Almoina). It was built in 1306 to give bread and clothes to the poor people in the village.

The building of the Pia Almoina is a Gothic palace built on a Romanesque building from the 12th or 13th centuries. The courtyard is worth noting, which is an eloquent example of Catalan civil Gothic.

Nowadays, it's a museum where all the pieces that are found in the prehistoric caves of Serinyà are exposed, there is also the famous Banyoles mandible of the Neanderthal man... That's 45 million years in a single space.
